REGISTRAR/ASSOCIATE CURATOR
Position: Registrar/Associate Curator
Hours: Full - time
Salary: 44,000 per annum, plus employee benefits package

ENAM is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented individual to join our museum team as a Registrar / Associate Curator. Reporting directly to the Curator, the successful candidate will be responsible for crucial museum functions including collections management, exhibition preparation/installation, and occasional curatorial projects.
The Registrar/Associate Curator will oversee collections management, ensuring the care and maintenance of our permanent collection. Duties include cataloging, numbering, and maintaining records using the Collections Database (Past Perfect). Additionally, the Registrar will coordinate borrowing and lending of objects, produce photographic documentation, and conduct regular inventory checks.
Working closely with the Curator, the Registrar/Associate Curator will prepare and install works of art for exhibitions. This includes overseeing packing/unpacking, arranging shipping and insurance, and managing budget-related tasks. The role involves monitoring gallery conditions, supervising exhibition maintenance, and ensuring security checks.
The Registrar/Associate Curator will propose, research, and periodically curate exhibitions with guidance from the Curator. Responsibilities include writing gallery labels, didactic materials, and collaborating with the education department for related programs.
REGISTRAR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collections Management
• Assumes responsibility for the care and maintenance of the ENAM permanent collection. Maintains records of accession, condition, copyright, location of objects and is responsible for the update and maintenance of the Collections Data Base (Past Perfect) in accordance with museum standards.
• Assumes responsibility for the numbering, cataloging and storing the museum’s collection.
• Training of volunteer support and interns to aid with collection/exhibition tasks.
• Assumes responsibility for movement, packing/unpacking, shipping of objects on loan and in the permanent collection and ensures conformity to insurance regulations and best practices.
• Monitors humidity and temperature readings in the galleries and produces monthly reports.
• Coordinates all aspects of borrowing and lending objects, including loan and gift documents upon request by the Executive Director or Curator.
• Produces documentary photographic digital prints of the collections and details of objects on loan or in the collections for museum records.
• Records monthly spot checks of the collections and performs annual detailed full inventory of the collections.
• Supervises cleaning of collections storage area and the periodic cleaning and condition of all outdoor sculpture. Exhibition Preparation and Installation
• With the Curator, prepares works of art and objects for exhibition.
• Assists the Curator in the preparation, (de)installation, lighting and placement of all objects in exhibitions.
• Oversees all packing and unpacking of borrowed exhibitions materials and ensures proper documentation.
• Arranges for shipping and insurance and shipping estimates for budgeting purposes.
• Together with the Curator, prepares all purchase orders related to exhibit supplies and services for budget purposes.
• Controls entry into and maintains record of entry and exit of all persons entering the collections storage vault.
• Monitors all cleaning of the building in galleries or other areas where art is displayed.
• Supervises daily maintenance of and operation of all exhibitions, including audio-visual components and security checks of exhibited works.
ASSOCIATE CURATOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Periodically propose and organize exhibitions and gallery installations with guidance of the Curator.
• Write gallery labels, panels, didactic materials, and online content.
• Liaison with the Museum’s education department to develop ideas for exhibition-related education and more expansive public programs. Participate in docent and staff training for exhibitions and projects.
Additional Duties
• Conduct gallery tours.
• Attend and support museum events, donor functions and programs outside of standard hours.
• Other duties as assigned. Education and Experience:
• Master’s degree in museum studies or related discipline preferred, BA essential.
• Understanding of Collections Management functions.
• Familiarity with Museum environment and professional best practices.
• Understanding of Past Perfect software (or similar database software).
• Ability to write condition reports.

COMPENSATION
• A baseline of $44,000 annually; compensation will be commensurate with candidate’s experience and qualifications.
