Site Director | Wichita Falls, TX
Site Director of Kell House Heritage Center
Job Description
Kell House Heritage Center • 900 Bluff • Wichita Falls, Texas 76301
The Kell House Heritage Center is the home of the historic Kell House Museum. Our mission is to inspire and educate the community to engage in preservation. The KHHC’s history dates to 1974 when a group of visionaries founded the Wichita County Heritage Society with the goal of saving the heritage of Wichita County. Though the name has changed, our mission remains the same. The Center continues to strive to be a strong influence in the community in the name of historic preservation. In the past five decades, the Center has worked to preserve the Kemp-Kell Depot (Route Building), the Littlest Skyscraper, the Holt Hotel, and—most recently—the facade of the Kell House itself, and our future goals are just as great.
Of note, the Kell House, built in 1909 by Frank Kell, is one of the most historically and architecturally significant buildings in Wichita Falls. The Museum features distinctive architecture designed by the local firm of Jones and Orlopp, original family furnishings, textiles, decorative arts, and historic costumes. Guided tours of this local, state, and national landmark provide a fascinating history of this area’s early settlement and of the Kell family.
