GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) strives to enhance opportunities that are reflective of an organization that is inclusive, one that fosters an open and supportive environment and draws from a variety of perspectives and experiences to further the mission and better serve the diverse population of Texas and our visitors. The State Parks Division is looking to engage a variety of students to fill intern opportunities throughout the state that embraces and encourages diversity and provides a multi-faceted learning and working environment.
Under the direction of the Chief Curator, this position will serve as an intern for the State Park Division. The Intern will complete collection management projects in a 10-or more week internship. Projects may include: (1) inventorying or cataloging interpretive collections, including data management; (2) researching Interpretive collection plan components; (3) maintaining State Park outdoor sculpture; (4) manufacturing interpretive replicas; (5) assembling interpretive components. Intern will assist in ongoing work in interpretive collections including cataloging, photographing, researching, and inventorying interpretive objects. Intern will receive on-the-job training in collection management and object handling and will learn to utilize database software, camera, and scanner. Intern will gain knowledge in program operations, program administration, and Texas Parks and Wildlife philosophy concerning historical, natural, and cultural resources. Successful conclusion of projects will help ensure the physical preservation and integrity of the interpretive collections. Ensures compliance with State and Federal laws and regulations, and agency policies and procedures. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures.

QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited college or university or recent graduate within the last 6 months; Minimum of 18 completed semester credit hours from an accredited college or university at time of application; Must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 grade point scale or "Pass" on a Pass/Fail system.

Licensure: If driving is required, applicant must possess a valid State Driver’s license.
