Position: Cowboy Interpreter
Facility: George Ranch Historical Park
Supervisor: Director of Programs
Status and Pay: Hourly, $10/hour
Summary of Position: The mission of the George Ranch Historical Park is to bring the history of agriculture, ranching and cowboy life & legacy to the students and community of Fort Bend County. Cowboys at the George Ranch have the unique opportunity to share Texas Ranching Heritage as well as help preserve the Texas Longhorn breed. The cowboy in this position will participate on a team to provide daily cattle yard demonstrations and to perform the daily chores needed to keep the site and animals in excellent condition. Cowboy interpreters can expect to have time and opportunities to advance their horsemanship, delve into the rich history of Fort Bend County, or practice leather-craft. We encourage our employees to pursue and practice new interests and skills that relate to 1930s cowboy and ranch life.
Qualifications:
• Strong communication skills with the ability to speak to large crowds
• Intermediate to advanced horse riding and cattle experience
• Experience working with children or youth education
• Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
• A passion for history
