The Grand Lodge of Texas Library and Museum of Texas - Archivist/Special Collections Librarian

Hiring Announcement 

The Masonic Grand Lodge Library and Museum of Texas, located in Waco, Texas, seeks a service-oriented, well-organized, technically savvy, and self-motivated Special Collections Librarian and Archivist.  The Librarian will be responsible for managing preservation of and access to the library's special collections, including rare books, audiovisual materials, photographs, artwork, institutional records, personal papers, and digital collections. The Librarian will also provide reference services, acquire and assess new collections, provide outreach through physical and digital displays and exhibits, and provide comprehensive, innovative library services that foster teaching, learning and research. The Librarian will work closely with patrons and donors and supervise assistants and student interns.  In addition, the Librarian will interface with personnel from the Grand Lodge of Texas and, on occasion, personnel from the Grand Chapter and Council of Texas, Accordingly, all applicants should possess exceptional communication skills and professional demeanor.  The successful candidate will be expected to participate in collaborative institutional groups and professional organizations.  

Qualifications 

Required education and experience: 

A master’s degree in library science from an ALA-Accredited program with coursework in archival studies.  Some experience in an archival setting required. Solid written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work under minimal supervision.   

Preferred qualification: 

Certified Archivist from the Academy of Certified Archivists.   

Desired skills:  

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the Anglo-American Cataloging Rules and Descriptive Cataloging of Rare Books, as well as Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS) and Encoded Archival Description (EAD). 
  • Familiarity with Access to Memory (AtoM). 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel. 
  • Proficiency in digitization standards for photographs, text, audio, video, and 3D artifacts. 
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. 

 

Work Condition and Physical Requirements 

Occasional irregular working hours.  Occasional travel may be required.  Regular stair climbing required.  Ability to lift 40 pounds to chest height. 
 
Starting annual salary: $40,000 based upon experience.  Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance provided, 401k available.
