Don't Just Prepare for the Last War: Informed Emergency Preparedness.
Emergency preparedness goes beyond assembling resources for recovery—it's about understanding the risks museums face and actively mitigating them. This hands-on workshop equips museum professionals with the tools and knowledge to effectively prepare for emergencies, addressing challenges posed by evolving staff, climate conditions, and community demographics.
Participants will learn to utilize risk assessment and after-action review tools, explore online resources, and implement active mitigation strategies. Experts from the Texas Historical Commission (THC) Historic Sites will share real-world experiences managing common emergencies, such as medical incidents, grassland fires, and severe weather events, along with lessons learned and actionable preparedness steps.
