Museum Visitor Services: Front Desk Admissions (Part Time) 

Admiral Nimitz Foundation 

Founded in 1971 as a 501(c)3, the Admiral Nimitz Foundation (ANF) since 2005, in an agreement with the Texas Historical Commission, manages and provides financial support to the State-owned National Museum of the Pacific War in its mission:  

 

To foster responsible citizenship and leadership by inspiring all ages with our collection and the enduring relevance of the stories from the Pacific War. 

About the Museum 

Originally opened in 1967 as the Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz Memorial Naval Museum, it was renamed the National Museum of the Pacific War (NMPW) in 1997, and the U.S. Congress officially designated it as such in 2006. The Museum is dedicated to honoring all who served in    and supported the Asiatic-Pacific theater of World War II and ensuring that the history, stories, and impact of this significant period are available to the public far into the future. A Smithsonian Affiliate and accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, it welcomes more than 120,000 visitors annually, including over 20,000 children and students. NMPW also reaches thousands more through its virtual learning programs. Spanning six acres in downtown Fredericksburg, Texas, it features three galleries with more than 55,000 square feet of indoor exhibit space, 40 media installations, almost 1000 artifacts, 15 macro-artifacts, hundreds of photographs, and thousands of oral histories in its digital archives. 

 

Position 

The Front Desk Admission Associate works under the supervision of the Visitor Services Director and Admission Manager to provide exceptional guest service while greeting, directing, and assisting visitors, and selling tickets at the Admiral Nimitz Gallery and the George H.W. Bush Gallery admissions counters. Visitor services staff may also provide relief at the Pacific Combat Zone or Command Post. Part-time hours range from 25 - 28 hrs. per week.  

 

General Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Provide exceptional guest service to all visitors to ensure a memorable visit to the National Museum of the Pacific War. 

  • Complete Point of Sale (POS) system transactions accurately including opening and closing procedures. 

  • Complete daily drawer reconciliation. 

  • Provide exhibit directions and information for ease of access. 

  • Answer telephone inquiries and direct calls to the appropriate staff member, as necessary. 

  • Assist with groups as needed. Utilize special queues during peak visitation periods. 

  • Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of main visitor areas as needed; restroom, foyers, exhibits, etc. 

  • Provide additional information to visitors suggesting membership, memorials, and special programs and exhibits. 

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas and counters. 

  • Maintain positive communication with all Foundation and THC employees. Promote teamwork throughout the campus. 

  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

Qualifications 

  • Ability to complete credit card and cash transactions quickly and correctly on the Point of Sale (POS) computer system. 

  • Previous visitor services or customer service experience. 

  • High school diploma or GED. 

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Demonstrated computer proficiency in Windows environments, other computer programs/applications, email, internet, and Point of Sale systems. 

  • Ability to use additional office equipment; fax, copier, printer. 

  • Must be an effective communicator, able to listen well and speak English clearly. 

  • Must be able to stand and/or walk for prolonged periods. 

  • Must maintain daily proper hygiene and grooming. 

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and occasional special event evenings. 

 

Environment and Physical Conditions   

  • Building environment and may have exposure to dust and environmental allergens consistent with normal business activities and human contact. 

  • Work will involve walking; standing, and safely lifting and carrying items weighing up to 35 pounds.  


Compensation 
 

This is a Part-Time position paying $16.00 per hour. The applicant’s lifestyle must be flexible enough to work evenings and weekends, when required. Uniform shirts are provided.
