Internship | Irving, TX
The Irving Dept of Arts and Culture is partnering with the Smithsonian this summer in an internship program that seeks to provide rising college sophomores, juniors, or seniors with an opportunity to have a meaningful experience to strengthen their understanding of the role museums and arts and cultural organizations play in advocating for change in communities across the US.
As a Smithsonian Affiliate hosting a SITES exhibition this summer, we are proud to be one of the host organizations for this program. For the intern selected to work with IAM (it’s listed as Irving Arts Center on the Smithsonian site), the summer will entail the following in addition to the training and experiences onsite in Washington, DC:
At IAM, interns will work directly with the traveling Smithsonian exhibit Caribbean Indigenous Resistance / Resistencia Indígena del Caribe: Taíno Vive. Based on their interests, interns can engage in a variety of projects such as developing interpretive tours, designing educational programs, and creating teacher resources. In addition to these project-based assignments, a significant component of the internship is dedicated to learning about the day-to-day operations within a museum setting. This hands-on experience is designed to provide interns with a comprehensive understanding of museum work, while also fostering creative and innovative approaches to cultural storytelling.
Stipends - Interns will receive $5,120 stipend, plus travel (if needed). Travel funds will be determined based on the cost of round-trip travel between the intern’s originating location and Washington, D.C. SITES will provide housing for the Washington, D.C. portion of the internship at the George Washington University dorms
