Building and Studio Manager
Artpace San Antonio is a nonprofit residency program which supports regional, national, and international artists in the creation of new art. As a catalyst for artistic expression, we engage local communities with global art practices and
experiences.
The Building and Studio Manager position is a full-time, 35 hour/week position. The schedule is 9:00am to 5:00pm Monday-Friday and as required. This position requires occasional evenings and weekends for after-hours events. This is an hourly position and reports to the Finance and Admin Associates in coordination with the Residencies and Exhibitions Manager. Wage based on experience $17 - $20 per hour with generous benefits.
The Building and Studio Manager is responsible for:
Managing contractors for projects and tasks for both artists and building needs while protecting Artpace staff, artists, guests, and the artwork.
Provide Residency and Exhibitions Manager with estimates on all costs associated art installations and projects. Assist in purchasing supplies and materials.
Prepare and install art objects in accordance with institutional standards. Installation of audio/visual equipment, construction of bases, vitrines, and artist-specific objects. Remodeling and altering interiors of exhibition spaces as directed.
Installation & de-installation for exhibitions, ship, prepare and install art objects in accordance with institutional standards.
Work across multiple projects with various timelines.
Managing and maintaining building equipment including alarm systems, electrical system, plumbing systems, air conditioners and controls, CCTV system, gate operators, elevator, lighting, and vehicles.
Supervision and managing workshop and workspaces throughout Artpace
Maintaining a strong working knowledge of power tools and audio-visual equipment.
Maintaining and inventory apartments, maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment.
Requirements
Must have a valid driver’s license and pass background checks.
Must strong knowledge of shop equipment and ability to operate and instruct safe and efficient use.
Working knowledge of electrical and plumbing systems and safety
Ability to work at heights—on ladders and scaffold
Proficiency with audio/visual equipment set-up and troubleshooting
Must be ready for heavy lifting and moving: crates, temporary walls, and equipment.
Must be able to work independently to complete tasks as well as with a team when needed.
Artpace provides a comfortable work environment, office space with free parking, a computer, use of Artpace email for official business, and access to physical and digital files. Working on site is required. COVID 19 vaccination is required for all Artpace staff
