Job Title: Adult Education and Programming Coordinator
Supervised By: Executive Director
Status: Part-Time (30 hours/week)
Schedule: Tuesday through Saturday
Compensation: $18-$20/hr. paid bi-weekly
Position Summary:
The Adult Education and Programming Coordinator at the Lake Jackson Historical Association (LJHA) is responsible for developing, organizing, and implementing educational programs and events targeted specifically at adult audiences at LJHA’s three locations: the Lake Jackson Historical Museum, the Jackson Plantation Historic Site, and the Alden B. Dow Office Museum. This role involves creating engaging and informative experiences that connect visitors with the museum's historical collections and exhibits.
Primary Responsibilities:

Program Development: Designing and planning a variety of educational programs, workshops, lectures, and events that cater to the interests and needs of adult learners.

Outreach and Promotion: Leading efforts to effectively promote adult education programs through various channels, including social media, newsletters, and community outreach initiatives.

Coordination and Logistics: Overseeing the logistical aspects of program implementation, including volunteer scheduling, registration, and coordination with external partners or guest speakers.

Facilitation: Leading and facilitating educational programs, ensuring a high level of engagement and providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for participants.

Volunteer Management: Recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers involved in adult education programs. Providing guidance and support to ensure smooth program delivery and a positive visitor experience.

Evaluation and Improvement: Conducting assessments and gathering feedback to evaluate the effectiveness of programs, making necessary adjustments and improvements to enhance the visitor experience.

Budgeting and Grant Assistance: Assisting the Executive Director in budget development and managing financial resources allocated for adult education programs. Assisting the Executive Director and grant committee with identifying and applying for grants and funding opportunities to support educational initiatives.
The successful candidate:

… has previous experience working in a museum, cultural institution, or educational organization, preferably in a programming or educational capacity.

… is passionate about ensuring LJHA’s goal of promoting diversity, inclusion, equity, and accessibility is kept in mind when putting together all educational opportunities and programming.

… exhibits excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong presentation and facilitation abilities to engage and interact with adult participants.

… is able to work both independently and as a member of a group. (This position will work closely with the Youth Education and Programming Coordinator.)

… has strong organizational and multitasking abilities to manage multiple programs simultaneously, meet deadlines, and handle logistical details efficiently.

… is comfortable with general computer use and has experience with or is willing to learn Canva, Wix, Past Perfect, and Salesforce.

… holds a bachelor's degree in history, museum studies, or a related field, or has at least two years of relevant experience in education, living history, interpretation, or public programming.
