What are the host venues of the TAM 2024 Annual Meeting?

The Annual Meeting events will be held at various cultural institutions around the City of Lubbock, including Science Spectrum, The Museum of Texas Tech University, The Ranching Heritage Center, the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for Arts, Silent Wings Museum, and more.

What is the TAM conference hotel?

The TAM Conference headquarters hotel is the Overton Hotel.

Conference shuttle services will rotate between the TAM host hotel and TAM conference venues throughout the conference. Staying at the TAM host hotel facilitates connecting with colleagues and helps us keep the Annual Meeting affordable to attendees. Reserve your room online from Friday, April 12 to Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at a discounted rate of $149/night. Book your room and get directions on our Hotel Reservations Page coming soon!

Why does conference programming take place inside museums?

We opted to host our conference at local institutions instead of a hotel convention center for several compelling reasons. This approach keeps the conference more cost-effective for attendees as we don't incur convention center expenses. Moreover, the unique setting within these institutions enhances the learning experience by immersing attendees in the world of museums. This choice also allows us to fully embrace the host city's environment, offering a more authentic and enriching experience. To ensure convenient access, we'll have continuous shuttle service circulating between host venues and host hotels. Additionally, most locations offer ample parking if you prefer to drive rather than use the shuttle.

Will there be an option to attend virtually?

TAM 2024 is crafted as an in-person gathering aimed at fostering connections and advancing professional development. We've chosen not to include a virtual component for TAM 2024 because hybrid events essentially involve running two separate events, each with its own logistical complexities, expenses, and staffing requirements. Our primary objective is to keep registration costs as affordable as possible. Introducing a virtual option would significantly raise rates, limiting access to professional development opportunities.

However, you can catch a glimpse of the exciting events and updates at #TAM2024 by following TAM on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook. Stay connected with us through these social platforms to stay informed and engaged!

New This Year!

Texas Association of Museums is excited to introduce an innovative way for conference attendees to seamlessly connect and share contact information at TAM 2024.

As an alternative to traditional paper business card exchanging, attendee name badges will feature a QR code that retrieves attendee contact information as a VCF file. The new QRConnect networking process lets you connect automatically with a quick QR scan by mobile phone, eliminating cumbersome data entry. This streamlined process aims to make networking fast, efficient, and eco-friendly, and in case you've left your office without your business cards, or you're still waiting for them to be printed by conference time, you'll be covered.

With a quick "may I scan you?", you'll be able to use your phone's camera app to access your new connection's contact information. iOS users will open the digital contact card directly in their iOS Contacts app, while Android users simply DOWNLOAD the file, then OPEN the file into Android Contacts.

Of course, if you prefer to simply hand out business cards "old school", you're free to do so! But on the off chance you run out, or left them back at your hotel room, QRConnect has you all set!
