America’s 250th birthday in 2026 is coming up fast! Across the country, organizers in every state are gearing up for the milestone. In Ohio, the America 250-Ohio Commission is helping lead statewide efforts for the Semiquincentennial.
Join Taylor Tomu from the America 250-Ohio Commission and Howard Long from the Licking County Historical Society to get a brief overview of the Commission and its core values and goals. We will shine a light on the various ways you can get involved in the work of America 250-Ohio, and showcase the work Licking County is doing as an example for future engagement efforts.
We will end with an extended Q&A to address your burning questions about all things AM 250-Ohio!
About our speakers:
Taylor Tomu is the Community Outreach and Engagement Specialist for the America 250-Ohio Commission. She moved to Ohio in 2016 to pursue her Master's in Medical Anthropology. Her passion for storytelling and connecting people to resources has led her to become a licensed community health worker and an active member of her local community in North Linden, Ohio.
Howard Long is the Executive Director of the Licking County Historical Society. Howard moved to Fairfield County in January 2017 to take over as CEO of the Robert K. Family YMCA after being a part of the YMCA family for over 34 years. Howard retired in April and joined the Licking County Historical Society soon after. History has always been a passion for Howard as long as he can remember, and says, “this new adventure will give me the opportunity to explore and learn new things.”
